There is a wealth of research that considers the labour market outcomes of ethnic minorities and immigrants in the UK, often with a focus on pay gaps as well as unemployment and labour market participation. Despite the amount we now know about migrants’ and minorities’ labour market position and occupational status, there remain gaps not only in our knowledge but also how we conceive of these differences.
In a blog for the Integration Hub, I present some thoughts on why questions around ethnicity, immigration and social mobility are more complicated than they are sometimes presented and offer some thoughts on how we might improve ur understanding going forward.
